Beginning at 5am on Sunday, April 16th, 2017, Nashville StandUp will attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “LONGEST COMEDY VARIETY SHOW” at Third Coast Comedy Club in Nashville, TN as part of the Wild West Comedy Festival. Nashville Standup is the current record holder for “LONGEST STANDUP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” – a record it has topped twice.

The non-stop, 24-hours-a-day, 8+ day schedule will feature showcases, feature-length, and headliner-length sets, and will include surprise drop-ins from comedians of various levels of fame and fortune (and infamy and misfortune) PLUS sketch and improv comedy group performances! The show is co-produced by Nashville-based comedians DJ Buckley, Chad Riden and Mary Jay Berger.

From April 12-20, 2015, NashvilleStandUp.com produced the first World Record setting #BrokenRecordShow in Nashville, Tennessee – a non-stop 184 hour, 16 minute long standup comedy show that more than doubled the previous GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title of “Longest Stand-Up Comedy Show – Multiple Comedians.” The show featured about 100 comedians, including surprise celebrity guest sets from Hannibal Buress, Eric Andre, Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Luis J. Gomez, Keith Alberstadt, Jon Reep, Ahmed Ahmed and Killer Beaz.

The only thing more pointless and silly than more than DOUBLING a world record would be topping your own title by just five minutes. Guess what we did? #BrokenRecordShow vol. 2 started at 5am May 15, 2016 and ran non-stop through 4:01pm May 24th as an official part of the Wild West Comedy Festival. That’s 227 hours and 1 minute. Due to a snafu which broke the show, the clock was restarted and the official record-breaking showtime was 184 hours and 21 minutes according to GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS rules. Over 120 comedians performed, including: Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Jay Larson, Nick Thune, Geoff Tate, Ben Kronberg, Sara Tiana, Joe Derosa, Josh Wolf, Tom Simmons, Stewart Huff, Megan Gailey, Ahmed Ahmed, Dave Ross, and Myq Kaplan. Ben Kronberg said, “It was the most unique legit special comedy experience I’ve probably ever had.”

While conquering the “Longest Stand-Up Comedy Show – Multiple Comedians” record twice, the producers were constrained by very specific rules about what could be allowed on stage during the show. For #BrokenRecordShow vol.3, in order to compliment Third Coast Comedy Club’s mission to empower local artists to produce every form of comedy (stand-up, sketch, improv, comedic plays, variety shows, live podcasts, and talk shows), #BrokenRecordShow producers decided to try something new – setting a record for “LONGEST COMEDY VARIETY SHOW” including stand-up, sketch and improv acts.

It’s The Greatest Dumbest Thing We’ve Ever Done Again.. And Again.

#BrokenRecordShow vol.3 begins at 5am on Easter Sunday, April 16th, 2017 and continues through 9:26pm Sunday, April 23rd (senselessly beating #BrokenRecordShow’s “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” record’s run time by five minutes) for a total of 184 hours and 26 minutes.

GUINNESS rules dictate that there must be at least 10 audience members at all times. No matter what time of day or night, somebody will be on stage telling jokes, so go hang out. “DAY DRINKER” passes are available for just $5 from 5am – 5pm every day. 24-HOUR PASSES are $10 and ALL ACCESS and VIP options are also available which allow patrons to come and go as they please throughout the entire festival. Tickets are available at Third Coast Comedy Club and online.

NashvilleStandUp.com’s #BrokenRecordShow vol. 3 To Top New And Old World Records

Nashville, Tennessee – Beginning on Sunday, April 16th, 2017 at 5am, Nashville StandUp will attempt to top the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “LONGEST VARIETY SHOW” at Third Coast Comedy Club in Nashville, TN as part of the Wild West Comedy Festival. The current record is 100 hours, 49 minutes and was accomplished by Ranjini Kalakendra and Sri Sankara TV at Freedom Park, Bengaluru, India, February 6-10, 2015. Nashville Standup is the current record holder for “LONGEST STANDUP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” – a record it has topped twice.

The non-stop, 24-hours-a-day, 8+ day schedule will feature showcases, feature-length, and headliner-length sets, and will include surprise drop-ins from comedians of various levels of fame and fortune (and infamy and misfortune). The show is co-produced by Nashville-based comedians DJ Buckley, Chad Riden and Mary Jay Berger.

#BrokenRecordShow’s website declares, “It’s The Greatest Dumbest Thing We’ve Ever Done Thrice.”

While conquering the marathon comedy show record, producers were constrained by very specific rules about what could be allowed on stage during the show. In order to compliment Third Coast Comedy Club’s mission to empower local artists to produce every form of comedy (stand-up, sketch, improv, comedic plays, variety shows, live podcasts, and talk shows), this year the #BrokenRecordShow team decided to attempt to top the “LONGEST VARIETY SHOW” record, which allows a wider variety of types of acts in addition to everybody’s undisputed favorite – hilarious stand-up comedy.

“If there was a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for ‘The Most Times A Group Of Idiots Broke The Same World Record Even Though Nobody Else Has Tried To Top Them Because What They’re Doing Is So Incredibly Silly,’ we’d go after that one too,” said #BrokenRecordShow producer Chad Riden.

From April 12-20, 2015, NashvilleStandUp.com produced the first World Record setting #BrokenRecordShow at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee – a non-stop 184 hour, 16 minute long standup comedy show that more than doubled the previous GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title of “Longest Stand-Up Comedy Show – Multiple Comedians.” The show featured about 100 comedians, including surprise celebrity guest sets from Hannibal Buress, Eric Andre, Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Luis J. Gomez, Keith Alberstadt, Jon Reep, Ahmed Ahmed and Killer Beaz.

By more than doubling the previous record of 80 hours, this non-stop stand up comedy marathon put Nashville into the record books of comedy history. A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title Adjudicator was on site to certify the attempt as an official world record on Wednesday April 15th at 8pm.. but the show kept going until Monday, April 20th, at 4:20am. Hundreds of people attended the event and even more watched online. The successful attempt was covered by many local and international media outlets and mentioned in countless social media posts.

“It was the greatest, dumbest thing we ever did,” says Riden. “The only thing more pointless and silly than more than DOUBLING a world record would be topping your own GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title by just five minutes. Guess what we did?”

#BrokenRecordShow vol. 2 started at 5am May 15, 2016 and ran non-stop through 4:01pm May 24th as an official part of the Wild West Comedy Festival. That’s 227 hours and 1 minute. Due to a snafu which broke the show, the clock was restarted and the official record-breaking showtime was 184 hours and 21 minutes according to GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ rules. Over 120 comedians performed, including: Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Jay Larson, Nick Thune, Geoff Tate, Ben Kronberg, Sara Tiana, Joe Derosa, Josh Wolf, Tom Simmons, Stewart Huff, Megan Gailey, Ahmed Ahmed, Dave Ross, and Myq Kaplan. Ben Kronberg said, “It was the most unique legit special comedy experience I’ve probably ever had.”

#BrokenRecordShow vol.3 will begin at 5am on Sunday, April 16th, 2017. The current “LONGEST VARIETY SHOW” record will be topped at 9am, Thursday, April 20, but the show will continue through 9:26pm Sunday, April 23rd (senselessly beating #BrokenRecordShow’s “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” record’s run time by five minutes) for a total of 184 hours and 26 minutes.

Tickets are on sale online now: ALL ACCESS passes allow fans to come and go as they please for the entire show / week and are available at a special EARLY BIRD price of $40. After April 1 at Noon, ALL ACCESS tickets will sell for $60 online and at the door. VIP passes are also available and include special reserved seating, a t-shirt, a letterpress show print and other perks. 24-HOUR passes will be available at the door for $10, and a special DAY DRINKERS pass will be available at the door from 5am – 5pm for just $5.

Post show thank you note from Chad Riden

2016 final group photo

2016 final group photo

THANK YOU to each and every one of you who came and watched, worked and performed at #BrokenRecordShow vol. 2.

We started at 5am May 15th and ran non-stop through 4:01pm May 24th. That’s 227 hours and 1 minute (I think) total. I broke the show a couple times and we’ll actually get credit for 184 hours and 21 minutes by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS rules. So we did exactly what we said we’d do and then some.. but most of all, we created stage time for comics and a fun experience for everybody. Ben Kronberg said, “It was the most unique legit special comedy experience I’ve probably ever had.” I hope you feel the same way.

One idiot can’t do this alone but 10 can. I’m sure glad we had more people around than that, though. No way this show could have happened without each and every one of you. I said my thank you’s during my last set but I really don’t remember much of it and probably left some people out. I’ve slept pretty consistently since Tuesday and finally feel like I’m just now getting back to normal.

I’m not sure what normal is any more and part of that is thanks to DJ Buckley. DJ dreamed up this thing and helped pull together the team to make it happen. Make sure you thank him for everything he did.

Mary Jay Berger coordinated all of the volunteers and handled their scheduling and most of the ‘front office’ type paperwork that made the show work. If it wasn’t for her, this would have been a failure.

I’ve spent the last four months pretty much working on this show full time, and I’m proud to say that the work isn’t coming to an end any time soon. I’m producing a documentary about the show and I could use your help. If you were at #BrokenRecordShow – performing, working or watching, I would like to interview you about your experiences on film. Contact me and set up a time to meet/interview or contact me for the guidelines for self-filming a post-show interview on your phone.

So many people helped – on stage and off, it’d be tough to name each person. Just know that you are appreciated and loved and we’re proud to call you a friend of Nashville comedy. Nashville StandUp would also like to offer you thank you letters for your charitable contribution to the event for tax purposes. Message me to get the ball rolling on that.

If you didn’t get a show shirt or letterpress show print from Angel Bomb, let me know. Volunteers and comics get one of each for free and the rest will be available to buy at shows and online at NashvilleStandUp.com.

Speaking of our wonderful sponsors, let’s thank them:

The East Room is the epicenter for independent, alternative comedy in Nashville. At some point I was at my house getting a shower and texted Mary Jay to tell her I was on my way back to the show and said, “I’m on my way home” meaning The East Room. Maybe I was sleep-deprived and delirious, but The East Room WAS home to a lot of us for over a week. None of this could have happened without Ben Jones and his support for what we’re doing. The biggest stumbling block for anyone trying to run an event like this would be finding a venue that was available and accommodating for 8-10 days. We are extremely lucky to have someone so supportive. Bartenders Nate & Kirin pulled long shifts to cover a 10-day long show and even took time to build a secondary stage for us outside. That’s insane. I can’t wait to do more outdoor shows there.

Wild West Comedy Festival / Outback Concerts / Zanies really embraced what we were doing and did everything they could to support us – they put a full page ad in their program book, added us to their website, provided audio equipment, sent us big name special guest comedians, promoted us on social media, paid for our laminates to be made and did a ton of other things I’m probably forgetting. As soon as Brian Dorfman heard about what we were doing he was on board and offering up help and advice and ideas. Nashville has been a great town to see live comedy for decades because of him. Dorf also landed us our biggest sponsor, SiriusXM. Thank him next time you see him.

SiriusXM recorded the show for broadcast and did some promotion as well. This will lead to passive, recurring revenue for many comics who could really use the money and exposure. Thank them for giving us such an amazing opportunity.

Plum Flower Software is the Franklin-based app/mobile/web developer that made the Broken Record Show iOS/Android app and helped us with our website. Not only did they support us financially and with countless man-hours creating cool tech for us, but Lauren O’Meara also volunteered and was at The East Room pulling shifts as an Independent Witness every day. If you need any nerd stuff done, hit them up and if you need a supportive comedy fan, holy crap – you’ve found one.

Angel Bomb design / letterpress did an amazing job creating a unique show print for us. Everybody loves it. They hand craft every item they make and you can feel the workmanship that goes into every single thing they do. I’m so proud to have such a fine piece of art that so many people will proudly hang on their wall to commemorate this show.

Nashville Improv company supported us financially and by being at the show! It’s one thing to cut a check, but these guys were here, laughing at us and posting photos online and being a part of this crazy thing. It’s nice to know that Nashville’s comedy community is so supportive of each other. Stop in and see their shows whenever you can.

DO615 promoted #BrokenRecordShow and brought out many people who otherwise wouldn’t have heard about us! Their show listings and ticket giveaways are an asset to anybody looking for entertainment options and we’re glad they were back on board this year as a sponsor.

WXNA-FM goes on the air in Nashville at 101.5 FM and streaming online around the world very soon. WXNA is a listener-supported, independent radio station with a freeform radio format. Look at their schedule and you’ll find something you like. Wednesdays from 1-2pm, you’ll see “Nashville StandUp Sits Down” which will feature live standup clips (many from #BrokenRecordShow), interviews and news about Nashville comedy. Be sure to tune in.

The Comedy Gym is Bo Shuster’s comedy workshop. He’s being pro-active, creating stage time and writing opportunities for Nashville Comics and we’re proud to count him as a sponsor.

Third Coast Comedy Club has an ambitious plan to create a new venue for all forms of comedy in Nashville – improv, sketch, theatre, stand-up, you name it. I’ve been in their new space in Marathon Village and can tell you that it’ll be unbelievably cool. I can’t wait to see shows there.

Corporate Juggernaut has been producing quality live comedy shows in Nashville for years. We were glad to have the “Gathering of the Juggelos” during #BrokenRecordShow and look forward to every show they put together.. they’re always fun.

Bongo Java has the best coffee in town, hands down, and they provided us with the good stuff for FREE Wednesday morning. That was pretty cool. Go thank them in person at any of their locations around town.

Chuck Anderson is a Nashville-based comic but he’s also an entrepreneur who is launching the “Death From A Bun” catering / food truck. Friday night he was set up in front of The East Room serving us red wine lacquered pork belly w/ curry pickled fennel, tonkatsu & spring onion AND Miso cured tofu w/ pomegranate salsa, charred and pickled scallion & noki shoga. I don’t even know what all of that is but I ate it and it was delicious.

Dino’s Bar and Grill has the best burgers in East Nashville and the most laid-back atmosphere for drinks and a great meal. They fed the comics their amazing burgers one night and it was just the greatest thing that ever happened to me. Dino’s has been the home to KAMiKAZE KiTTEN Comedy Show w/ Chad Riden and Friends the 2nd Wednesday of every month for about three years now and if you’ve had their burger you know why. Holy crap. Go see them any time you’re hungry, but especially when we’re doing a show.

Mad Donna’s fed the comics one night with their famous Habanero Mac & Cheese! So great. So wonderful. The MD Loft upstairs also features some of the best indie comedy shows around town, including Mary Jay Berger’s “Flying With Jaybird” showcase the third Wednesday of every month. Go have lunch or see a show and tell them we sent you.

Speaking of wonderful shows around town, SPiFFY SQUiRREL comedy show is exactly like #BrokenRecordShow except it’s 90 minutes long every Sunday night at 6:30pm at The East Room. We’d love to see you at our weekly little Broken Record reunion event whenever you can be there.

TN Flyers is my personal squirrel guy. Southern Flying Squirrels are the greatest pets. They’re nocturnal, so they’ll just sleep in your shirt pocket all day and be adorable and hand out snuggles. At night, they do acrobatics and flips and glide around and they’re just a delight. They’re sweet and loving and a lot of fun.

ComedyNews.Org has the latest comedy news, interviews, reviews and stuff. They’re wonderful people and have always supported and spread the word about Nashville comedy.

ComedyPodcast.com was the first comedy podcast network when it launched in 2005, and they’re still hosting some really funny shows! They’ll be the home of the newly revived Nashville StandUp podcast as soon as WXNA is on the air.

NashvilleStandUp.com lists shows around town and posts news and info about the local scene and the comics with Nashville ties who continue to make middle Tennessee proud both here and around the world. I gotta say, these guys are just the best.

Lastly I’d like to thank our oldest sponsor, FRESCA carbonated grapefruit beverage. Through thick and thin, FRESCA has been there sponsoring everything Nashville StandUp has done for the last 16 years. Say it loud, say it proud: FRESCA! THAT’S GOOD DRINKIN’!

Nashville StandUp Now Accepting Submissions From Comics Wishing To Perform On World Record Breaking #BrokenRecordShow

Beginning at 11:59am on Sunday, May 15th, 2016, Nashville StandUp will attempt to top it’s own GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” at The East Room in Nashville, TN.

Any comedians who meet GUINNESS’ professional requirements are now welcome to submit an application to perform online at BrokenRecordShow.com.

Nashville StandUp’s first “Broken Record Comedy Show” ran non-stop at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee from Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 12:04pm to Monday, April 20 at 4:20am, setting the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title at 184 hours, 16 minutes. The show, which kicked off with show idea man DJ Buckley and concluded with Nashville Standup’s Chad Riden, also featured about 100 other comedians from all over the country, including surprise celebrity guest sets from nationally-touring artists such as Hannibal Buress, Eric Andre, Rory Scovel, Nate Bargatze, Luis J. Gomez, Keith Alberstadt, Jon Reep, Ahmed Ahmed and Killer Beaz.

The previous 80-hour record was previously held by the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA, for a show which ran December 6-9, 2010. By more than doubling the previous record, #BrokenRecordShow’s non-stop stand up comedy marathon put Nashville into the record books of comedy history. A GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title Adjudicator was on site to certify the attempt as an official world record on Wednesday April 15th at 8pm, but the show continued until Monday, April 20th, at 4:20am. Hundreds of people attended the event and even more watched online. The successful attempt was covered by local and international media outlets and has already become a thing of legend.

The brainchild of Nashville-based comic DJ Buckley, this record-breaking show is being co-produced by Nashville-based comedian Chad Riden, The East Room’s Ben Jones and comedian Mary Jay Berger.

“This show is the best thing I’ve ever done, and if it never stopped I’d be fine with it,” says D.J. Buckley. “Last year, I got to see a lot of funny comics and great people come together to work on something none of us could have accomplished by ourselves, and I think this year will be even better since we actually know what we’re doing this time.”

“It’s the greatest dumbest thing we’ve ever done twice,” Chad Riden smirks. “If you asked me that old guidance counselor question, ‘if you could do anything in the world, what would you rather be doing right now?’ the answer would always be ‘a stand-up comedy show.’ We figured out a way to be able to do comedy all day, every day and it was a dream come true. I’ve missed the first show ever since we ended it and I’m really excited to be doing it again. Maybe this time we just won’t ever stop. Nobody can ever beat our record if our show never ends.”

“Breaking our own record this year is an attempt to further show the legitimacy of the comics in Nashville,” says The East Room’s Ben Jones. “To break the record by a mere 5 minutes is to compete with the absurdity of last year’s successful attempt to more than double the previous record.”

Tickets are on sale now at special early bird prices. One Day Passes are available for $10, All Access Passes, allowing comedy fans to come and go for the duration of the show are currently available for $40, and VIP Passes, which include reserved seating, an official show t-shirt, and Broken Record letterpress, are available for a limited time at $80.

Nashville StandUp is a 509(a)(2) Public Charity with a mission to cultivate and promote middle Tennessee’s growing stand up comedy scene by supporting the Nashville-based comedians that help make the Music City a great place to see live comedy.

Nashville StandUp’s “Broken Record Comedy Show” Shatters Previous GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title

Official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator Michael Empric presents the framed certificate to Chad Riden (left) and DJ Buckley (center).

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Apr. 23, 2015 — Nashville StandUp’s “Broken Record Comedy Show” ended its 184 hour, 16 minute run at 4:20am April 20, 2015, setting the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for: “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS.”

Labeled as, “The Greatest Dumbest Thing We’ve Ever Done!” The show ran non-stop at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 12:04pm with DJ Buckley and ending Monday April 20 at 4:20am with Chad Riden.

The previous 80-hour record had been held by the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, CA, for a show which ran from 6 to 9 December 2010. That show included 170 different acts by 150 comedians.

The 80-hour mark was surpassed on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 8:04pm while DJ Buckley was performing. Official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator Michael Empric was on site to announce the new record saying, “I’m so excited to announce that with 80 hours and two minutes, you guys have set a new Guinness World Record!” The standing room only crowd at The East Room erupted into cheers, carrying co-host D.J. Buckley on their shoulders with the framed certificate from GUINNESS raised high above his head.

As the crowd settled down, co-host Chad Riden performed a set, saying he did not want the show to ever end. “If we never stop, nobody can ever beat us unless they already started before we did or we die first.” The show continued through the entire duration of Nashville’s Wild West Comedy Festival, which was conducive to celebrity drop-in sets from Hannibal Buress, Rory Scovel, Al Jackson, Eric Andre, Nate Bargatze, Keith Alberstadt, Ahmed Ahmed, Killer Beaz and Jon Reep.

The show finally began wrapping up Sunday night April 19th as the regularly scheduled weekly SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show presented the “Bestival of the Festival” showcase featuring stand-out performances from crowd favorites Mary Jay Berger, Brad Edwards, Carter Glascock, Monty Mitchell, Jonathan Craig, Brett Cantrell, Narado Moore, Joe Kelley and Jim Seward.

After an amazing set where Narado Moore improvised unflattering impressions of lackluster out of town guest comics, the marathon show came to an end early Monday morning, April 20th with show producers DJ Buckley and Chad Riden doing their final sets. “I want to do this again next year,” said Riden. “I think we have to. I want to break our own record by five minutes just to show that we know how silly and pointless this all is.” As the official clock neared 4:20 a.m., Riden thanked show co-producers Mary Jay Berger, Ben Jones and DJ Buckley, along with Zanies Comedy Clubs’ Brian Dorfman, comedian Nate Bargatze, the Wild West Comedy Festival, Outback Concerts, the dozens of volunteers who staffed the event, the comics who performed and everybody who was in attendance to a standing ovation before hopping off stage.
