GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title attempt #BrokenRecordShow hits 48-hour milestone at The East Room

BROKEN RECORD COMEDY SHOW -NashvilleStandUp.com's World Record Attempt: "LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” April 12-19, 2015 at The East Room.

You guys, WE’RE DOING IT.

Beginning noon April 12th, Nashville StandUp began our attempt to take the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” at The East Room in Nashville, TN.

NewsChannel5 talking to Monty MitchellAs I type this it’s early afternoon Tuesday April 14th. That means the BROKEN RECORD COMEDY SHOW has been going for over 48 hours so far. Unbelievable. We’re having such a great time.
NewsChannel5 talking to Chad Riden
NewsChannel 5 did interviews and shot show footage around noon and a live shot during their 5pm show, helping spread the word.

Jessica WatkinsLast night was incredible. Jessica Watkins is an East Nashville native, now living in NYC and she did an hour telling stories from her walk across the country when she did comedy and avoided being murdered while filming her documentary “Burning Daylight.” Nate BargatzeLouis J Gomez was absolutely hilarious and delightful as he explained how his baby is fifteen times cuter than yours. The house was PACKED for home town boy who done good, Nate Bargatze. A lot of Wild West Comedy Festival people and Zanies staffers supplemented the huge, huge crowd who squeezed in to see Nate. It was pretty awesome.

Ahmed AhmedOur good friend KILLER BEAZ dropped in and did a 30-minute surprise set, followed by Nashville favorite Mike James. Ahmed Ahmed (TBS’ Sullivan & Son, The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour) dropped in to do a fun set where he hilariously woke up a sleepy audience member in the front row. Ahmed is an absolute beast on stage and any comic would hate to have to follow him, but that didn’t stop Zanies co-owner Andrew Dorfman who jumped up to do a very funny set.

Andrew DorfmanThis show is the greatest, dumbest thing we’ve ever done, but it’s also been a lot of fun and cathartic. Nashville comedy has really pulled together to make this a reality. The comics deemed as being ‘professional’ according to GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™’ guidelines (20 paid credits in a comedy club, theatre or bar and at least one year’s experience since their first paid gig), have done shows at all hours of the day and night.

DJ Buckley has not left the building since Sunday morning at 8:30 am. Chad Riden has only left for 2-3 hours each day to sleep and shower at home and run his daughter to and from school. Several comics have slept in The East Room’s fancy new comics’ lounge in the balcony. Many have been here all night. Several Zanies servers spent the entire night helping us make sure we had over 10 people in the audience at all times, saying, “we’re all in this together.” We truly are. The East Room staff, the fans, the volunteers, the comics. It’s really been touching watching everybody work to make this stupid thing happen. THANK YOU.

If you’re in town, STOP IN! ANY TIME. We’re here. If you can’t come by, photographer Jamie Hernendez is documenting the show on her Instagram account. She does incredible work and is here at all hours doing a fantastic job taking photos and posting updates on twitter. We’re also streaming video of the event on YouTube and on our special #BrokenRecordShow site. Go now to see the lineup for the rest of our schedule this week.

ALSO: the BROKEN RECORD Comedy Show is honoring ANY Wild West Comedy Festival tickets as valid tickets for our world record breaking show at The East Room. Any and all WWCF ticket holders need only flash their WWCF2015 ticket stub or laminate to be granted free admission to The East Room with no additional purchase necessary. Hope to see you at the show!

Nashville Comedians To Attempt World Record Breaking 8 Day Long Comedy Show

NashvilleStandUp.com Launches crowd-funding campaign to cover costs of live show & filmed documentary

Guinness World Records' "Longest Stand-up Comedy Show - Multiple Comedians" record breaking show April 12-19, 2015 at The East Room

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 17, 2015 — NashvilleStandUp.com announced today its intention to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” during the Wild West Comedy Festival in April.

Beginning 6:30pm April 12, 2015, at The East Room in Nashville, Tennessee, the Nashville StandUp comedy scene will begin making comedy history while creating as many opportunities for stage time for as many comedians as possible during Nashville’s popular comedy festival. The current Guinness World Record for this category is 80 hours and was achieved by comedians at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood December 6-9, 2010. That show included 170 different acts by 150 comedians.

Nashville StandUp will not only break the 3.3 day / 80 hour record, it will continue through the entire duration of the Wild West Comedy Festival, and conclude on April 19th. That’s 8 days, 192 non-stop hours of stand-up comedy featuring hundreds of talented comedians from as many locations as possible.

The brainchild of Nashville-based comic DJ Buckley, this Guinness World Records’ breaking show will begin and end with The East Room’s weekly “Spiffy Squirrel comedy show” with Chad Riden on Sunday nights at 6:30. The show will also feature Corporate Juggernaut’s regular Tuesday night “ULTIMATE COMEDY” open mic, as well as other shows-within-the-show. The non-stop 192 hour schedule will feature showcases, feature-length and headliner-length sets and surprise drop-ins from comedians of various levels of fame and fortune AND infamy and misfortune.

NashvilleStandUp.com launched an IndieGoGo crowd-funding campaign to help pay for the cost of the event, including the Guinness World Records’ fees. The campaign site includes stretch goals such as live-streaming the entire event online and the production of a documentary. Perks available to donors include VIP passes to the show, special silk screened show t-shirts, limited edition Hatch Show Print show posters, even chances to perform on stage and be included in the Guinness World Records’ listing.

Nashville StandUp is a 509(a)(2) Public Charity with a mission to cultivate and promote middle Tennessee’s growing stand-up comedy scene and the Nashville-based comedians that help make it a success. Chad Riden has served as Nashville StandUp’s “Grand Poobah” since 2001, but is more commonly known as “America’s Favorite Comedian Of All Time” by the teeming masses of loyal comedy fans.

Sean Parrott’s “Summertime (Featuring Swagnum P.I.)” video is the greatest thing on the Internet

Sean Parrott, July 2014
Sean Parrott, July 2014

Nashville-based comedian & musician Sean Parrott is so incredibly funny and talented and wonderful, it’s just ridiculous. His new album “THE DTH OVE LOF” is a perfect example of that. Also, the video for “Summertime (Featuring Swagnum P.I.)” is (without question) the greatest thing on the internet. Stop everything and watch the video right now:

THE DTH OVE LOF” is a fun and funny indie pop concept album about love, loss, and a battle to save the Earth! The album is available now on BandCamp, Spotify, iTunes and all of the other places, too. Buy it now OR, register to win a FREE copy of it right here! (Well, at the bottom of this post, actually.)

Parrott has previously released “Songs About Sad Stuff And Snacks” in December 2012, and several tracks throughout 2013, but this new album is more of a follow-up to his 2010 “Infinite Superdoom” release as “The Dead Dead.”

Parrot’s 2010 release – “The Dead Dead: Infinite Superdoom”

THE DTH OVE LOF” cover art (by Nashville-based comedian / artist Bryce Damuth) shares the same color scheme as The Dead Dead album and the same sword. Sean says he conceived the new album, “..as part of a continuing story. Infinite Superdoom is about two dudes kinda wandering and battling and THE DTH OVE LOF happens after (or before) that (they have a time machine.) I’m not really sure what happened in between…or what the next album will be about (maybe more time travel stuff?).”

Watching the video for “Summertime” feels like traveling back in time to the glory days of super fun music videos. Sean says Director David Shamban “was really into the doll idea and said it was going to be awesome so I let him go buckwild. And, based on the reactions, it seems to have turned out well.”

Shamban says, “Sean’s song pretty much takes the objectification of women to a new level and what better way to express that than with actual objects. It was a tough task envisioning a video for Sean’s heartfelt ballad of breast awareness. I didn’t want to be heavy handed with the message. I came up with the concept to show characters behaving very badly in a spring break type scenario through the medium of Barbie scale dolls. I think that was good choice considering Barbie dolls anatomy are totally fucked. My motto for the video was ‘Make sure your attention deficited inner 14 year old is happy with this.’ I wanted to make a video that a modern feminist could watch and say “Hey, that’s pretty disgusting, good job!” Seeing as my girlfriend doesn’t hate me after making this video, I must have done something right.”

Within one week of being posted on Sean Parrott’s YouTube channel, the video had over 5000 views. “I’m trying to figure out which song to make a video of next,” Sean says. “But most of the others aren’t as specifically jokey. The problem is trying to scrape money together to pay someone to make another video that looks good.”

Help fund more creativity from Mr. Parrott by buying “THE DTH OVE LOF” on BandCamp or iTunes. Broke? You can register to win a FREE cd from Sean right here. Before you do that, don’t forget to follow Sean Parrott on Facebook, Twitter & YouTube.

Jeremy Essig’s LOSER: A Live Action Game (Shame) Show @ SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show (The East Room) 6/22/2014

Jeremy Essig's LOSER: A Live Action Game (Shame) Show @ SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show - 6/22/2014 8pm:

An Olympiad of pop culture featuring live karaoke with tiny instruments, a video game and pizza roll eating contest sponsored by Totinos, Inter-Gender Sitcom Theater and more, “Loser. – A Live Action Shame Show” will embark on its first tour this summer.

The brainchild of comedian Jeremy Essig (Brian Posehn Tour Mate, appearances on NPR) and Chris Ward (DJ on KDHX, former Twisted Toyfare Theatre writer) Loser. is a night of karaoke, bar trivia, video game competitions and sketch comedy rolled into one two-hour show.

A four-part game show, Loser., begins with music trivia and a slightly skewed version of “Don’t Forget the Lyrics.” The show then moves to its video game portion where contestants are awarded points for both their gaming skills and ability to complement those skills with pizza rolls. Shifting to contestant’s ability to draw superheroes into real-life scenarios in the show’s third round, the game ends with a local sketch group performing a dark and occasionally offensive fan-fiction version of a popular sitcom. Holding this madness together are co-hosts Essig and Ward, pop-culture aficionados whose humor provides a backbone for what would otherwise be an unwieldy plethora of cultural delights.

After a successful year in the show’s home base in St. Louis, Loser. is venturing out this June to test the pop culture acumen of contestants across the eastern part of the country with stops in Bloomington, Cincinnati, Pittsburg, Washington DC, New York City and Columbus Ohio before hitting The East Room in Nashville.

Jeremy and Chris will be joined by Nashville-based comedians Jim Seward, Kate Spellman, Brett Cantrell, Meredith Whitsett and DJ Buckley who will participate in the sketch comedy portion of the show. They’re also looking for non-comic contestants to participate in the fun. If you’re interested, e-mail loseragameshow@gmail.com
