What Chicago taught Conan
The Chicago Tribune has an interesting write-up about Conan O’Brien’s time in Chicago in the late 80’s (with Bob Odenkirk, Robert Smigel & them) in anticipation of his upcoming week of shows there:
There were a lot of funny people around that summer — O’Brien had landed in the middle of a sketch-comedy mafia that would go on to infiltrate every corner of television over the next two decades — but even then, the gawky Harvard grad stood out.

5/4: Doug Stanhope @ Springwater
The Great White Stanhope Returns!
The infamous Doug Stanhope is back in Nashville, doing ONE SHOW ONLY at Springwater on Thursday, May 4 at 9pm with Nashville’s own, The Mattoid. Doug is currently on what he has called his “See Me Before I’m Dead Tour” of dirty little indy rock clubs.
You may remember that Doug (along with Joe Rogan) took over hosting duties at the Man Show for a while.. and then did a Girls Gone Wild dvd.. but don’t let that fool you. If you come to the show expecting him to be chanting ziggy-zaggy-ziggy-zaggy with a pack of idiot frat boys, you’re in trouble.
Doug’s stand-up is generally politically charged and / or drug-fueled. He challenges the audience to question what they’ve been spoon-fed from the media, politicians and religions.. but first and foremost he’s funny. Don’t miss him. He’s one of the comics we’ll still be talking about thirty years from now.. and I can promise you one thing: if you go to his show, chances are you’ll have a story you can tell for the rest of your life (that is, if you’re sober enough to remember any of it).
Advance tickets are available for $10 each (cash only) at Springwater. 50 of these tickets will be sold, and will get you entrance at the back door so you can avoid the line on the night of the show.

5/5, 5/6: Jarrod Harris Benefit in Atlanta
The Showcase Comedy Lounge in Atlanta will be presenting two benefit shows May 5th & May 6th at 8:30pm to benefit comedian Jarrod Harris.
Showcase Comedy’s Shawn Lesser says, “A good friend to all of us in the Atlanta Comedy Scene, comedian Jarrod Harris has suffered terrible personal losses in the last two weeks. He lost both his Mother and a sister unexpectedly – it has caused a huge emotional and financial burden on Jarrod that no one should have to bare alone. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jarrod, his family, and friends.”
In order to try to help Jarrod with the financial burden that accompanies two funerals, Showcase Comedy will have two benefit shows this weekend, headlined by Jarrod’s good friend Jim Lehner. All proceeds of the shows will go to Jarrod.
Even if you can’t make the event but would still like to help, buy a ticket online – all the proceeds will go to Jarrod. If you are making a donation and not going to the show, please write that in Paypal’s “comments” section so they can track seat availability.

4/25: Louisville, KY: Comedians of Comedy
If you have a car that can make the trip.. start driving to Louisville, KY NOW and you’ll be sure to get there in time for the Comedians of Comedy Tour. Quit your job, call in dead.. whatever it takes. Buy your tickets in advance, mind you.. but don’t miss it: Headliners Music Hall in Louisville KY. Tuesday, April 25th at 9pm (Eastern).
Seriously, a bunch of Nashville comics carpool’ed to Atlanta to see the live show and were NOT disappointed. Neither was anyone else.. by popular demand, Patton released a limited run EP of the very funny, very drunken end of the show which he called, “Patton Vs. Alcohol Vs. Zach Vs. Patton“.
What I’m saying is: You’re a fool if you miss this show. Tell ’em NashvilleStandUp.com sent ya. They won’t give a crap, but tell ’em anyway!
