Stand-Up Comedy Level One: Writing
Dates: March 30, April 6 & 13 from 6:30-8:30 PM

Held @ School Of Laughs / 4811 Lebanon Rd, Hermitage, TN 37076

Email to save your spot … schooloflaughs @ gmail.com

This is a (3) date class and the investment is 200 total (10 spots left)

The Stand-Up Comedy Level One: Writing class is the foundation for beginners and intermediate comics. In this class we learn more than a dozen techniques comics use to make material solid and consistent. We watch comics on Letterman and break down why they make certain choices. We write jokes and have an opportunity to share in class. We don’t get onstage, however. So it’s a pressure-free environment where you can speak up as much (or as little) as you like.

As an added bonus, this class comes with a “Lifetime Warranty” based on available space. Once you’ve paid for the class, you can attend any and all following writing class sessions at no extra charge. So you can apply the knowledge as you progress through the ranks of comedy to make it a custom fit every time!

To register, e-mail Rik at SchoolOfLaughs @ gmail.com with your name, cell phone and the words “Ready for Next Writing Class” in the subject heading. I’ll follow up with specifics and more details.

Intro to Improv Level One: Games
Dates: April 7, 14, 21 from 5:30-7:30 PM

Held at Mad Donna’s 1313 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37206

Investment: 200 total

E-mail me at SchoolOfLaughs @ gmail.com with “Intro to Improv Class” in the subject heading and your name and cell phone in the body of the message if you would like to be on the stand-by list. We will sample many of the games you have seen on “Whose Line is it Anyway?” as well as many you may have never seen. You’ll learn the ground rules that apply to Improvisational Comedy. You’ll be onstage A LOT and will learn to trust your instincts.

You’ll also benefit if you are pursuing stand-up comedy. All of the games in this course can be applied to writing and developing your material. Many students develop characters and bits that can be implemented into their stand-up routines.

Stand-Up Comedy Level Two: Performance
Dates: May 5, 12 & 26 from 5:30-7:30 PM

Held at Mad Donna’s 1313 Woodland Street, Nashville, TN 37206

This is a (3) date class and the investment is 200 total (8 spots left)

E-mail me at SchoolOfLaughs @ gmail.com with “Save My Performance Class Spot” in the heading and your name and cell phone in the body of the message. I’ll reply back and let you know if a spot is available.

The Performance class is designed to get you onstage. We experiment with voices, act outs, impressions, emotion and other performance techniques to make your material pop. You will also get lots of feedback on the material you present from myself and the other students. In this class you will begin to develop a three-minute set.

You are encouraged to bring a recording device to these sessions so you can watch it back later and take additional steps to improve your performance.

The Business of Comedy Seminar
Date: MAY 30, 2015 Time: 1-4 PM

Held @ School Of Laughs / 4811 Lebanon Rd, Hermitage, TN 37076

Investment: 99 total (10 spots left)

E-mail me at SchoolOfLaughs @ gmail.com with “Save My Business Class Spot” in the heading and your name and cell phone in the body of the message. I’ll reply back and let you know if a spot is available.

You will learn more in this session about the business side of being funny than some comics learn in their entire career. You can take this class without any experience. It is a real eye opener into the world of comedy as a career.

Among other topics, we’ll discuss …

What goes in my promo kit?
When should I approach the clubs?
How do I get in with bookers?
How do I promote myself? Do I need a web site?
What is deductible?
How much do comedians make?
What market best suits my act?
What is a realistic timeline for my career?
What merchandise sells? Where do I get it?
What should I do for free, and where do I draw the line?
and MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

Alex Stone

http://twitter.com/alexstonecomedy
Alex Stone is a comedian from Cincinnati, Ohio who now makes his home in Chicago, Illinois. His hard work and determination have led him from his early days as an absurdist joke writer to his current role as one of the most impressive young storytellers in comedy. In addition to the deeply personal material that has become the cornerstone of his act, Alex has written jokes for nationally touring comedians and was recently selected to participate in the Best of the Midwest competition at the 2013 Gilda’s LaughFest. In June Alex made his TV debut on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and in July was chosen as a New Faces Unrepped for the Just For Laughs Festival. His prolific nature and originality have also made him a regular at the Chicago Laugh Factory and earned him an appearance on the Independent Film Channel. Alex was also recently featured in both the Chicago Tribune and the Huffington Post.

Sally Brooks
http://sallybrookscomedy.com/
http://twitter.com/thesallybrooks
Sally Brooks is a nationally touring stand-up comedian and writer whose personal stories of misadventure and fun-loving, smart-assed nature make her an audience favorite everywhere she performs. Sally has been heard on the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom radio show, was chosen for Comedy Central’s UP NEXT talent search and has performed at the Boston, Limestone, SLO, Women in Comedy, Cape Fear and Brew Ha Ha Comedy festivals. She regularly performs at the top clubs across the country and has shared the stage with comedians such as Bobcat Goldthwait, Kevin Nealon, Kyle Kinane and Fortune Feimster. Catch her stand-up on SiriusXM and Pandora, or check out her popular Suburban Housewife web series (with over 1.5 million views), which served as an inspiration for the HULU show “Mother UP!”

Mike Cronin
http://twitter.com/bonesnake3
When it comes to comedy, Mike Cronin does it all: stand up, writing, improv, film, and sketches. Even some of his characters do stand up. In fact, recently he made it to the finals of the Funniest Person In Cincinnati Contest as himself and also a character. In the stand up world, he appeared in the first ever Limestone Comedy Festival and was featured on the Todd Glass Show. In the sketch/improv world he was a cast member of the show Underbelly which was named Cincinnati’s Best Comedy Show of 2009 and spawned shows in New York and LA. Mike’s film work includes three award-winning 48 Hour Film Festival projects and co-writing/directing /starring in a music video for “The Hipster Song,” which has over 800,000 views on YouTube. No matter which way you see Mike Cronin, you will leave laughing.

Sam Evans
http://twitter.com/samevans05
Extremely funny and slightly off-kilter, Sam Evans is one of the best young comedians working today. At home in both comedy clubs and non-traditional stand-up environments, Sam began his comedy career in Cincinnati, Ohio where, in 2012, he was named the Funniest Person in Cincinnati and has been a featured performer at Cincinnati’s Brew HaHa festival. In 2014, Sam was chosen as a New Faces Unrepped for the Just For Laughs Festival. Now making his home in Brooklyn, New York, when he’s not touring, Sam performs nightly around the city and co-hosts the show “Bush League” at the Creek and the Cave.

Cam O’Connor
http://twitter.com/chezdecko
Charismatic, relatable and honest to a fault, Cam O’Connor is one of the hardest working young comedians in the Midwest. In a relatively short period of time, he has opened for Kyle Kinane, Stewart Huff and Doug Stanhope, and was the touring opener for Ryan Singer and Jarrod Harris on their “Organic Comedy Tour.” The twelve-state “Organic” tour, which celebrated underground comedy scenes across the country, was filmed for a documentary that is scheduled to be released in 2014. Cam was recently a finalist in both the 2012 Funniest Person in Cincinnati competition and the Bob & Tom All-Star Contest. A native of Indianapolis, IN, Cam is the creator of Rocketship Comedy, a series of stand-up showcases that are quickly becoming a preferred destination for many of the most respected names in comedy.

Less than 40 hours left to get early bird prices on World Record Breaking Show tickets & stuff

Guinness World Records' "Longest Stand-up Comedy Show - Multiple Comedians" record breaking show April 12-19, 2015 at The East Room

Guinness World Records' "Longest Stand-up Comedy Show - Multiple Comedians" record breaking show April 12-19, 2015 at The East Room

Nashville StandUp’s “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS” world record attempt is coming up SOON: April 12-19, 2015 during the Wild West Comedy Festival at The East Room in Nashville, TN. Right now there are less than 40 hours left to get early bird prices on tickets & stuff from our IndieGoGo campaign.

First: THANK YOU to everybody who has already donated here or at our fundraiser show at Zanies or in person or online at NashvilleStandUp.com! The money that has already been delivered by IndieGoGo is being put to good use. If you haven’t donated yet, go right ahead with confidence. We have signed a contract with Guinness and this IS happening!

Also, THIS IS GREAT: a group of donors (we’re not at liberty to announce who yet) have pledged to pay whatever expenses we have that are not paid for by this crowd-funding campaign. Even if somehow THAT fell through (extremely unlikely), NASHVILLE STANDUP will pick up the rest of the bills itself out of pocket & hope to make the money back later in merch & ticket sales.

Comics: we’re currently booking time slots on the big show. Our list of comedians already scheduled to appear includes Nate Bargatze, Ralphie May, Billy Wayne Davis and many, many more. If you haven’t yet reserved your spot, GET ON IT. Time is running out. Before you pledge, MAKE SURE YOU QUALIFY! In case you missed our previous update, Guinness World Records rules say:

“All performers must be of a proficient standard. We define this as the comedians having at least 20 professional (paid) credits in a comedy club, theatre or bar and at least one year’s experience since their first paid gig. Evidence to prove this must be presented to the independent witnesses prior to the event and the witnesses must attest to this in their written statements.”

This means that before we can allow you to perform, you must give us a list of qualifying professional dates / shows. Sorry, slackers. Maybe next year.

We’re all very excited about this show & we’re glad you are too. Oh yeah, we’re calling it: BROKEN RECORD Comedy Show. Don’t skip it.

Nashville StandUp is a 509(a)(2) Public Charity with a mission to cultivate and promote middle Tennessee’s growing stand-up comedy scene and the Nashville-based comedians that help make it a success. His dreams include performing for Burt Reynolds (even Tim doesn’t know why this is his dream) and to one day drink coffee with Jerry Seinfeld. Not on that show or anything. Just figure Jerry knows where to find a good cup of coffee.
