On February 12, 2013 the Barnes Brothers began shooting a documentary in East Nashville, starring Todd Snider and Elizabeth Cook. Its purpose was to promote touring songwriters from the neighborhood.
They failed.
Instead, drugs took over.
Instead they made…”East Nashville Tonight” – A hypothetical documentary stoner musical.
The Nashville Scene wrote, “if you’ve ever wanted to see Middle Tennessee’s world-renowned paradise of gentrified bohemia get a Cheech and Chong-worthy This Is Spinal Tap treatment, here goes.”

NashvilleStandUp.com, The East Room and Barnes Brothers Unlimited present this special East Nashville screening of Todd Snider’s “East Nashville Tonight” immediately following the SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show on Sunday, April 13, 2014 (around 9pm-ish). The SPiFFY SQUiRREL show lineup consists of Chuck Anderson with Jeff Simmermon (Upright Citizens Brigade-NY, This American Life, The Moth), Charla Lauriston (NY), Meredith Whitsett & Chad Riden. “East Nashville Tonight” will be screened after the comedy show (around 9pm-ish). Doors open at 7pm, the show starts at 7:30pm and admission is just $5.
SPiFFY SQUiRREL is Nashville’s only truly independent, underground professional weekly alt comedy show. Featuring touring comedians from all corners of the earth, plus outstanding local regulars who are worth paying attention to. Sundays at 7:30pm at The East Room for just $5 cover. There is a “Pizza Buds” food truck / Winnebago in The East Room parking lot & the sign on the street says “LOVE East Nashville.” Park at the Car Wash.
