He Ain’t No Blue Collar Comedy Trash, He’s Fucking Billy Wayne Davis

TotallyCrushedOut has an interview with NashvilleStandUp alum Billy Wayne Davis. To introduce him, they say:

“Anybody that has been around the Seattle comedy scene knows the name Billy Wayne Davis. He’s a self-described hillbilly who has a distinctly intellectual aspect to his stand-up. His comedy is polished and smart. It is not what you (or Hollywood Agents) expect when you hear his distinct Southern accent. I’ve seen him perform numerous occasions and am always surprised at how well he handles himself and put hecklers in their place.”

B-dub talks about how he got into comedy, his worst day job ever, why he moved to Seattle, fighting the ‘stupid southern hick’ stereotype, and how he balances his life on the road with having a wife and a baby.

Read the whole interview at totallycrushedoutmag.com. If you visit Billy Wayne Davis’ website over at BillyWayneDavis.com, you can read about his current bus tour with Ralphie May:

This week I’m flying down to Sacramento on Thursday and doing the Crest Theatre with Ralphie May. Then, we hop on a tour bus up to Portland for a show on Friday at the Newmark. End up in Seattle at the Moore on Saturday and the Met in Spokane on Sunday…….I’ll be flip camming the whole trip and updating them on my YouTube page…….more to come.

UPDATE:

We just learned that BW will appear in a documentary about Seattle comedy appropriately called “Seattle Komedy DokumentaЯy.” The first trailer was just released with this note from the producers: “In 2007, Seattle was at the epicenter of an amazing stand-up comedy movement. This documentary follows the very recent rise, fall and rebirth of the alternative comedy scene and proves that Seattle is many things, but one of those things is a place where great players get their start.”

Zanies’ All-Star Gary Dull Benefit Show

Wednesday, May 5th – 7:30pm
Zanies; 2025 8th Ave. South; Nashville
(facebook event)

Wednesday Zanies Comedy Showplace presents a special show featuring Mike Speenberg with Mark Anundson, TC Cope, Gary Dull, Brad Edwards, Donnie Pollard and Chad Riden. That’s a pretty good lineup and it’s all for a good cause.

Gary Dull is a comedian based out of Nashville who is as country as he could be and funny as hell. Gary had been a roofer by trade.. and when the housing crisis hit and construction projects dried up so did a lot of his business. He recently had some surgery and can’t get on a roof now.. so he’s been doing as many comedy shows as he can. Meanwhile, the details of his personal life sounds like a country music song.

Gary is a great guy and a funny comic, so we’ve tried to band together to help him out a little. Wednesday, the proceeds from the door at Zanies will go to Gary. Please come out and laugh and support one of our own in his time of need. Tickets are just $10 and are available now online or by calling Zanies box office at 615-269-0221.

The Comedy Roast Of Gary Dull

Monday, May 10th – 7pm
Spanky’s Sports Bar & Grill; 330 Welch Road; Nashville
(facebook event)

Laughing makes things a little bit easier to deal with even if you lost everything or know some one who has … We may not have lost everything ourselves but we could have friends that did … including a life … but to be alive and laughing we are to be thankful & helpful to others.

Gary Dull is the guest of honor Monday, May 10th at Spanky’s. There will be drink specials and the dais will be done just like the Tuesday open mic night – show up and go up with a sign-up sheet circulating before the show. Roasts are always fun / painful / fun again and this one is sure to be extra special as we raise money for Gary.

The Jawbone Stimulus Funny Video Contest

N’Sup got an email the other day from Michael Williams of Jawbone:

I’m a big comedy fan and used to go to shows all the time when I was at Vanderbilt. Since graduating, I’ve moved out west working for a start up called Jawbone.

Last week we launched a $10,000 grand prize ‘Funny Video’ contest and I’m reaching out to a few of the comedy blogs I follow. If you know of anyone in the Nashville comedy network who likes creating videos and would want to participate in a user generated video, then please please spread the word. We’re only expecting a little over 100 entries so chances of winning 10K or other cash prizes is pretty high (let alone a good portfolio building exercise).

Submission window closes June 1st

www.jawbonecontest.com

I’m a huge fan of giving comics a vehicle to express themselves + win some cash… my bro used to be a comic as well (and also went to Vandy).

The contest should be fun–please feel free to use Twitter/FB/ etc. and hopefully someone from NashVegas wins the prize. J

So, start being funny and catch it on tape. When you win the big prize, don’t forget to tip your web staff.
