RALPHIE MAY COMEDY CENTRAL TAPINGS:
Ralphie was at Zanies in Nashville (or “Comedy City”, as our town is affectionately referred to by Nobody) earlier this month.. and if you saw any of those shows, you know how funny that guy is. If you didn’t get a chance to see Ralphie & friends then.. I’ve got news for you: Ralphie May is taping two different shows this weekend in Knoxville at the Tennessee Theatre for Comedy Central along with Lahna Turner and Nashville’s own Billy Wayne Davis.
This is huge.. I believe this is the first time Comedy Central has filmed two separate specials from one comedian in the same night. He’s not filming the same show in front of two audiences.. it’s totally different material. (That’s an impressive amount of funny ha-ha’s. I’ve been doing stand-up for over five and a half years, and I think I’ve written approximately two and a half jokes. Imagine cranking out TWO Comedy Central specials in one night!)
If you want tickets, order them now! Knoxville loves Ralphie and they will pack that theater both times without any problem. To buy your tickets now, go to NashvilleStandUp.com now and click on the thing (that’s a technical term). Or click on this link here and see what happens.
I’ll see you there!
COMEDY NEWS HEADLINES:
Look at the time! It’s mid-April already and this is the first N’Sup email update since January. Before you go runnin’ your mouth-hole about how we’re slackin’, keep in mind this “News” section on the site IS updated as news breaks. Some semi-recent stories that are still archived include:
# Comedy Central moves on without Chappelle
# Comedy Central’s “Test Pilots” Competition
# Keith Alberstadt on Bob & Tom
# Backstage at “Nashville Star” with Wix Wichmann
We’ll try to put more stuff up there as newsy things happen.
PODCAST INFO:
Did you know N’Sup does a weekly podcast? Wait, do we? Well.. we DID have a weekly podcast, but then we took a few weeks off for the holidays.. and then we took off a month to recover from
New Years.. then we’re recorded a new episode at Ryan Williams’ house and BOY did that one turn out good! What a drunken debauchery that was. That episode has been edited for “clarity”, lets say, and may not ever see the “air” seeing as how it’s approximately thirty seconds long now. BUT the good news is we’ve recorded a couple cool episodes since then – a Road Trip episode and a special all Mary Mack episode. Those will be online and available very soon.. so to prepare, subscribe to the podcast now.. download the old episodes.. and be ready so when those new shows go out, you get them first thing. For more info about that show, visit the site:
www.NashvilleStandUp.com/radio/
While I’m on the subject of podcasts, you should know that there’s another one produced by Nashville-based comedians. The Happy For Apathy podcast by Manundso and (sometimes) T-Diddy is hilarious and very well produced. They just got listed on the iTunes Music Store, too! For the podcast link and info and stuff, go to their site:

SHAMELESS WHORING:
If you’re not already familiar with MySpace, let me pull your coat-tail to this fantastic “social networking” / promotional tool / easy way to meet filthy whores / website. You create a profile, you upload a flattering picture of yourself (or the celebrity you’re pretending to be), and start adding friends to your inner circle of pals. NashvilleStandUp is on there, and I’m on there, too.
Those of you who’ve met me know that I have absolutely no business being on MySpace. I’m a 31-year-old doofus who is married to a wonderful, beautiful woman and has a three year old daughter. If it wasn’t for comedy, I’d have no reason to be on such a site. Now, if I was a 19-year-old “bi-curious” girl looking to party with complete strangers and then post semi-nude pictures of myself for the world to see.. this’d be the place to go. On second thought, I *DO* belong on MySpace! See you there!
www.myspace.com/nsup NASHVILLE STAND UP!
www.myspace.com/chadriden DRUNCLE SAM! THAT’S ME TRYING NOT TO APPEAR OLD AND CREEPY!
www.myspace.com/mangyk9 NOW ON MYSPACE! MANGY DOG!
Sorry for the CAPS. That’s kind of a side effect of being on MySpace too much. Seriously, add us as your pals and help spread the word about Nashville comedy by reposting our bulletins and crap!
Thanks for your support and stuff,

Comedy Central moves on without Chappelle
Sohh.com is reporting that Comedy Central has decided to wrap up the third season of “Chappelle’s Show” without Dave Chappelle. Instead, they have reportedly taped the live studio audience segments of four episodes co-hosted by “Chappelle’s Show” co-creator Neal Brennan, and cast members Charlie Murphy and Donnell Rawlings.
Chappelle walked off the set and away from his $50 million contract before production on the third season had finished last year, leading to wild speculation about his wherabouts, sanity and motives. Since his return from a sabbatical in South Africa, Dave has appeared in comedy clubs and on television talking about what happened. Esquire Magazine recently published an interview where Chappelle delved deeper, saying, “The bottom line was, white people own everything, and where can a black person go and be himself or say something that’s familiar to him and not have to explain or apologize?”
On Oprah, Inside The Actor’s Studio, and elsewhere, Dave has made it very clear that he would be willing to work with Comedy Central again — but only on his very specific terms. Apparently that has not happened.
Comedy Central reportedly said it would put the finishing touches on the third season of “Chappelle’s Show” this week, but has not revealed when season three will start to air.

Comedy Central’s “Test Pilots” Competition
4/11/2006 1:00:00 PM
Comedy Central and IFILM are collaborating to launch “Test Pilots,” an online competition giving anybody the chance to submit their original one-to five-minute pilots online at www.comedycentral.com, according to a report by Broadcasting & Cable. The network will pick three entries every week to stream online and be eligible for voting by visitors to the site. The most popular pilot of the week will move on as one of four semi-finalists. The final competition’s grand-prize winner will be chosen by a Comedy Central panel of judges and will receive a development deal to produce an episodic series on the chuckle channel’s broadband video website, “MotherLoad.”
Comedy Central’s Senior VP of Original Programming and Development, Lou Wallach, says, “We get throngs of emails and calls telling us, ‘I have the best show for Comedy Central.’ Well, now is their chance to prove it.”
IFILM, the online video-entertainment site (also owned by the Viacom / MTV / Comedy Central conglomerate) will host submissions. The competition will accept any format video from live action to animation to sketch to hidden-camera, from May 22-August 24.
