Help document the greatest dumbest thing we’ve ever done twice on film

help produce a #BrokenRecordShow documentary film

help produce a #BrokenRecordShow documentary film

The only thing more pointless and silly than more than DOUBLING the world record for “LONGEST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW – MULTIPLE COMEDIANS,” would be breaking your own GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title (184 hours, 16 minutes) by just five minutes. Guess what we’re doing?

Last year’s #BrokenRecordShow was SO FUN. We shot video of the entire show to meet GUINNESS’ evidence requirements but we really wish we could have filmed a documentary about what we were doing. We have all the resources we need to successfully run this 8-day long show and beat our own world record, but we don’t have the equipment we need to film a behind the scenes documentary about doing this very dumb thing (again). That’s where you come in.

We’ve launched an IndieGoGo crowd-funding campaign to pay for the minimum equipment we need to film a documentary.

What We Need

  • Three GoPro Hero4 cameras (3 x $329 = $987)
  • Six 64GB SD cards (6 x $24 = $144)
  • One USB hard drive ($125)
  • If we raise more money than the bare minimum we need ($1256 + 10% to cover the fees IndieGoGo will take out), maybe we’ll be able to buy a MacBook Pro to edit this thing on and be able to compensate people who help us out.

What You’ll Get
We appreciate your help. Here’s some ways we’ll thank you:

  • VIP all-access passes to the show May 15-23 at The East Room in Nashville, TN – watch hundreds of comics driven to madness by a relentless amount of comedy as many times as you want.
  • Tickets to an Exclusive Advance Screening of the finished film
  • Digital download of the finished film
  • YOUR NAME in the credits of the film / on IMDB
  • Weird other stuff?

Risks & Challenges
We HAVE done this before. That said, God is cruel and there are several ways he could possibly smote us:

  • The East Room is destroyed by terrorists who hate freedom and comedy.
  • What if we DON’T break our own world record? We’ll look pretty dumb, won’t we? The big difference is we first broke the world record after 80 hours and this time it’s going to take us 184 hours and 16 minutes to do it. That’s many more opportunities to screw this up.

Other Ways You Can Help
Some people just can’t contribute, but that doesn’t mean they can’t help:

  • Please tell your friends on social media!
  • Volunteer to help! Last year we had over 60 volunteers and we couldn’t have done the show without them.
  • SHOW UP at the show! We need butts in the seats. Everybody will be much more comfortable with a full audience.
  • Join the NashvilleStandUp.com mailing list & follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram & YouTube.
  • Steal money from some richie rich person who doesn’t deserve what they have and THEN contribute with THAT money.
  • Wherever you live, go find the local comedy shows and comedians and support them. The super famous incredible “breakout” comics of 10-15 years from now are trying standup comedy for the first time ever this week and you could be there to see them.

Thank you very much for donating and we hope to see you at the show!

Robyn Hitchcock is one of England’s most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician’s musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock’s father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration).

Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, Robyn has recorded more than 20 albums as well as starred in ‘Storefront Hitchcock’ an in concert film recorded in New York and directed by Jonathan Demme.

Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn describes his songs as ‘paintings you can listen to’. His most recent album THE MAN UPSTAIRS is a bittersweet love letter to a vanishing world. Produced by legendary folk-rock svengali Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Nick Drake) the album was critically acclaimed by MOJO, UNCUT and THE QUIETUS.

“A gifted melodist, Hitchcock nests engaging lyrics in some of the most bracing, rainbow-hued pop this side of Revolver. He wrests inspiration not from ordinary life but from extraordinary imaginings…” – Rolling Stone

“As a performer, he’s as much a wandering bard as a rock star.” – The Believer

‘Third Coast Comedy Club’ to open in Marathon Village

    Third Coast Comedy Club announcement

    Third Coast Comedy Club announcement

Last night 30-40 Nashville comedy show runners were invited to meet up at Edley’s BBQ for a 15 minute meeting about “a huge and exciting comedy project.” Improvisers Luke Watson (Founder/Artistic Director of LOL Nashville) and Scott Field (Co-founder of Improv Nashville/Artistic Director of Music City Improv) kept it short and sweet. Noting how difficult it is to book a venue to do local comedy shows on Fridays and Saturdays, they announced that they’re opening their own venue. Having concluded their year-long search last week for a permanent space, they have partnered to open a comedy club that will serve all comedic art forms: sketch, improv, stand-up, comedic plays, etc.

The Third Coast Comedy Club is taking over the former Imogene and Willie production space at 1310 Clinton Street in Marathon Village, a breeding ground for creatives of all media. The theater will serve as an outlet for the wealth of comedic talent in Nashville. The bar will serve as a community meeting place for locals and comics throughout the week.

Alongside the nightly programming and weekend Main Stage shows, the club will offer courses ranging from improvisation to sketch to stand-up for locals and tourists alike. Weekend Main Stage shows will be directed by Erica Elam, instructor & player with both The Second City (CHI/LA), iO (CHI/LA), The School at Steppenwolf (CHI), and the critically-acclaimed musical improv group, Baby Wants Candy.

Third Coast Comedy Club logoThe tag line on www.ThirdCoastComedy.club says, “NASHVILLE’S HOME FOR ALL THINGS COMEDY.” The first post on their new Facebook page says, “For too long local Nashville comics have been homeless. Today that all changes. Next month the Third Coast Comedy Club opens its doors, providing a home for all forms of comedy (sketch, improv, and stand-up). Our soft opening line-up in March will be followed by a grand opening in April, including the first season of the Third Coast Comedy Main Stage show. Nashville is no longer just the Music City anymore!”

    The address is:

Sick of Stupid Tour at Zanies 1/20/2016

“Sick of Stupid” is an intelligent, comedic look at all things southern. We believe that people are thirsty for an intelligent voice with a southern accent. “The South” is made up of Miami, Austin, Atlanta, The Research Triangle, New Orleans, Nashville and so many more wonderful, cultured, beautiful cities and those cities are full of intelligent, progressive young people who don’t want to grouped in with Duck Dynasty or Larry the Cable Guy. The south has somehow garnered a reputation that lumps us all into wearing camouflage and hating gay people. There exists a large portion of the population that doesn’t want to be lumped into those categories. Those folks are our demographic. We believe they will love what we have to say. We believe that the antithesis of the “Blue Collar Comedy Tour” is something that hasn’t been done yet and the first people to do it successfully can expect a windfall. Intelligent southern comedy exists. We aren’t the first to do it. It is a genre but it is a genre and a concept without an owner. No one has claimed it. No one has mastered it successfully and no one has branded it or taken it to the mainstream and pop. We believe we can be the guys to do just that.

Here’s more info about the comics in the show:

Tom Simmons was born in New York and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He is married to the love of his life, Serena, for more than a decade. Together, they have a son named Owen. “We figured, that’s what we would be doing for the rest of our lives.” Before Owen’s birth in 2004, Tom and Serena toured the continent in their RV, devoted to perfecting Tom’s stage act and putting their relationship to the test. The Simmons now live in Greensboro, North Carolina, the “epicenter of comedy”, as Tom describes it with a huge grin. “We bought a house from the seventies, and there’s lots of work to do. All I need now is a husband.”

Stewart Huff was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has been performing comedy for over 15 years, beginning when he decided to drop out of college to become a writer. Currently touring theatres, comedy clubs and special events across the country, Huff reaches past the norm for his genuine — and genuinely unexpected — comedy. His knack for embracing the foibles of humanity and his refreshing originality make him as likeable as he is hilarious. A storyteller at heart, Huff continues to amaze with his clever material and personal wit.

Huff has performed in comedy clubs nationally and internationally, including the Improv in Los Angeles and New York, the Punchline in Atlanta and the Funny Bone in Omaha, as well as countless others.

A finalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival, Huff was also invited to perform in the HBO Las Vegas Festival, where his act can be viewed on pay-per-view. He’s been featured in/on the Wall Street Journal, NPR and Nuvo and invited to festivals and conventions all over the country.

He currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his girlfriend. There he drops off the various items he collects while on the road, including an antique barber chair, countless vintage photographs, and an extensive collection of LP’s. She likes this.

He is featured in the documentary Road Comics: Big Work on Small Stages, which was released in Fall 2009.

A rising star on the comedy circuit, Cash is quickly climbing the ranks. He is featuring all over the country with multiple sets and hours of material, being accepted to the Cape Fear Comedy Festival three years in a row, the Norfolk Comedy Festival and winning Port City’s Top Comic 2013, Comedy Zone’s Almost Famous competition 2013 and chosen as one of 30 semifinalists nationwide in Comedy Central’s UpNext competition/talent search.
