Raanan Hershberg: Crying Behind 3D Glasses at SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show 8/31/2014

Crying Behind 3D Glasses: When Raanan Hershberg was 8 years old he saw Jurassic Park in theaters, and it was the greatest experience of his life. So twenty years later, when Jurassic Park 3D came out, he was very eager to relive that experience; in fact, he was desperate to, because let’s just say, in those twenty years, his life had not advanced in a manner he could reflect on positively: He was broke, living at his parent’s house, and a girl he had been sleeping with was pregnant.. A dark and funny look on how the movies and books and T.V. you loved as a child don’t always hold up, no matter how much you desperately need them to.

Raanan Hershberg tours clubs and colleges all across the country, cutting his teeth in some of the top rooms in the nation. He was selected for this year’s Laugh Your Asheville Off Comedy Festival, and was a finalist in the 2012 Funniest Person in Cincinnati Competition. Besides performing stand up, he has also written two one man shows (“Broke, High, and Horny” and “Crying Behind 3D Glasses”). He is also the host and founder of The Bard’s Town Theater Roasts and The Young, Dumb, and Full of Comedy Show- a bi-weekly showcase featuring some of the best young, working comedians in the Midwest.

Dusty Slay @ SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show (The East Room) 8/24/2014

Dusty Slay album release show at SPiFFY SQUiRREL comedy show at The East Room 8/24/2014

Nashville based comedian Dusty Slay will be hosting a party for his debut album release “Making That Fudge” on Sunday, August 24 at the East Room in East Nashville.

“Making That Fudge” contains 55 minutes of cleverly crafted, sharply delivered comedy featuring Slay’s unique view on ordinary topics.

Slay was born in Alabama, splitting his time living with his mom in a trailer park and his dad on a farm. One would say he was born to be either a comedian or a meth addict. Slay then moved to Charleston, SC in 2004 and began performing improvised and stand up comedy. He’s been performing all over the country ever since. Slay recently relocated to Nashville, where he can be seen performing stand up all over town.

The album release party will feature performances from some of Nashville’s favorite comedians, and copies of “Making That Fudge” will be available for purchase.

“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth, and I was lucky to have that spoon.” –Dusty Slay

Mitch Burrow @ SPiFFY SQUiRREL Comedy Show (The East Room) 8/17/2014

SPiFFY SQUiRREL comedy show 8/17/2014 w/ Mitch Burrow. doors 7pm, show 7:30 at The East Room. $5

MITCH BURROW has lived a very diverse life that has given him more than enough stories to tell.

He grew up on a dirt road in Georgia, joined the Marine Corps at 18 and moved to Okinawa, Japan for several years, went to Iraq, and he then spent 3 years in Southern California before moving to Seattle Washington where he has spent the last 6 years becoming one of Seattle’s favorite comedians.

Mitch is a Republican that supports gay marriage, or maybe he is a democrat against gun control. More than likely, Mitch is just a guy that doesn’t fit into any one single category.. unless that category is “funny”.

Kyle Kinane @ The High Watt – Aug. 8, 2014

Kyle Kinane kicks off his “I bet you want to tell me how your barbecue is better here” tour August 8th at The High Watt, which Kyle says is, “always a treat, train interruption, or not.”

This short tour will end at the 40 Watt Club in Athens, Georgia, where he will tape his new comedy special “I Liked His Old Stuff Better.” While talking to the Nashville Scene, Kyle described his “old stuff” as being, “about dismal employment and drunken missteps,” but says, “I like seeing comics and musicians grow, so I’m trying to not become shtick. Sad, bearded, hetero white male comedy is on the gallows right now. I don’t want to be there when the trap door drops. Also, I’m not depressed. It’s disingenuous to say I am just for a bit.” Read the whole interview at the NashvilleScene.com. Here’s a clip from 2013:
