from ThirdManRecords.com:
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a one Mr. Reggie Watts come Thursday, December 2nd at Third Man Live for our first full night of comedy in our live venue. Reggie is off the “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour” with the venerable Conan O’Brien, and just this past spring released his comedy performance CD/DVD “Why $#!+ So Crazy?” on Comedy Central Records.

Reggie is coming into town for one night and one night only to bring an evening of wild and unpredictable comedic performance, brilliant social commentary, and other assorted improvised behavior. Oh yes, and did we mention Reggie also possesses what can only be described as the finest and most magnificent mass of raven locks ever to adorn the stage?!

Only patrons of the event will have the opportunity to purchase a very limited edition Black and Blue split color vinyl of the show. Murfreesboro Mosque Mockery

A couple months ago when we heard that The Daily Show was flying in to do a two day shoot in Murfreesboro, we weren’t exactly sure how.. but we knew someone in the area would soon make us cringe. As the news reports about the Mosque in Murfreesboro continue to make Tennessee look increasingly intolerant and ignorant, we’d like to point out that MOST of us Middle Tennesseeans are nice, friendly people who will NOT firebomb your religious gathering places.

On August 25th, Aasif Mandvi reported on the 30+ year-old Islamic center in Mufreesboro that is facing opposition as they try to expand. Enjoy the video:

Nissan whistle-blower Sharyn Bovat now doing stand-up

Nissan whistle-blower Sharyn Bovat just got written up by Punchline magazine – who embedded a video of her performing at Spanky’s last Tuesday. Of course, the Spanky’s regulars are heard talking in the background and/or heckling, so congratulations on YOUR punchline magazine debut, as well:

Punchline’s Josh Evans wrote, “Granted she’s by no means a seasoned comedienne, but Bovat shows some promise, if only for her comfortable stage presence and ability to generate at least a few good laughs.”
Sharyn will perform at Zanies Nov. 17th as part of Rik Roberts’ School Of Laughs graduation performance show.

“Max the Hero” (with MST3K’ers Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett) to Screen at NY Television Pilot Festival

The animated comedy “Max the Hero” stars and was written by Mystery Science Theater 3000‘s and RiffTrax.com’s Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett. It was produced, directed and co-written by Nashville’s Mike Salva.

In the show, Max (voiced by Bill Corbett), is an accidental superhero who is kind of a lazy jerk. He never actually saves anybody. His jealous roommate, Stew (voiced by Michael J. Nelson), becomes his arch-rival. And they both injure their buddy Chip (voiced by Kevin Murphy) a lot.

We’ve seen it! It’s hilarious and well worth your time

Here’s a trailer, narrated by Nashville-based stand-up comedian / sketch performer / writer / heavy metal parody band The Dead Dead front man, Sean Parrott:

Max the Hero‘s 13 minute pilot episode will be screened at the upcoming New York Television Pilot Festival, where it is competing for $25,000 and a a development deal in the Independent Pilot Competition.

2009 Comic-Con International Film Festival (CCIFF) judge / KBPS Film Critic Beth Accomando called Max the Hero, “one of the handful of really outstanding films I saw that year.”

The firm has two screenings:

Wednesday, Sept. 22nd at 9:45 pm (tickets)
Thursday, Sept. 23rd at 7:30 pm (tickets)

Tribeca Cinemas
54 Varick Street
NY, NY

The award-winning short has previously been recognized by the Dragon*Con Film Festival as “Best Animated Comedy – 2008,” and as “Best Animation – 2008” by Rutgers Media Center’s Film and DV Festival.
