Nate Bargatze, Vandy fanNate is originally from Old Hickory, TN and currently resides in NYC. His father is a former clown turned world class magician and Nate has followed in his footsteps in the entertainment business. Bargatze has had his own Comedy Central Presents, has appeared three times on Conan, performed at Bonnaroo in 2010, and appeared on CMT multiple times. He won New York’s Comedy Festival and the Boston Comedy Festival both in 2010. Nate wrote for Spike’s Video Game Awards, has performing for the troops in Iraq and Kuwait five times and just recently was mentioned in Rolling Stone Magazine by Marc Maron as a “comic who should be big” and in Esquire by Jim Gaffigan as one of the top up and coming comics in 2012. His first album, “Yelled at by a clown” was released Sept. 18, 2012. It is great. You should buy it now:
“Nate Bargatze is going to be huge and this album is proof. 52 minutes of classic comedy done right. A fresh and innocent take on story-driven stand-up, 100% unedited. Highly recommended to anyone reading this sentence.” – A Special Thing Records
Once again, The Belcourt Theatre reminds us why we love them by showing Mike Birbiglia‘s “Sleepwalk With Me”:
“I’m going to tell you a story, and it’s true….I always have to tell people that.” So asserts comedian-turned-playwright-turned-filmmaker Mike Birbiglia directly to the viewer at the outset of his autobiographically inspired, fictional feature debut. Birbiglia wears his incisive wit on his sleeve while portraying a cinematic surrogate. We are thrust into the tale of a burgeoning stand-up comedian struggling with the stress of a stalled career, a stale relationship threatening to race out of his control, and the wild spurts of severe sleepwalking he is desperate to ignore. The kind of passionate and personal storytelling that transfigures intimate anguish into comic art, SLEEPWALK WITH ME also delights as a revolving door of today’s stand-up scene. Also starring Marc Maron, Wyatt Cenac and others.
“A funny and insightful film. I could have watched it for 10 hours.” —Judd Apatow
Look at this trailer.. it’s got Henry Phillips (who is hilarious and was just at Zanies) and Marc Maron (who is fantastically funny and was just here at Zanies in July) and of course dang ole Birbigs (who is awesome and was last at Zanies on September 9, 2008, when he was refining his “Sleepwalk With Me” material in preparation for the off-Broadway theatrical run that preceded his book of the same name and now this movie). Henry Phillips has been seen performing his twisted songs and stories on Comedy Central, ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and NBC’s ‘Late Friday’. He can also be heard regularly on morning and satellite radio nationwide, performing such songs as ‘The Guitar Pill’ and ‘She’s Talking Again’. His nationally released CDs, fusing mellow folk-rock ballads with psychopathic lyrics have earned him mention in Billboard magazine’s ‘Critic’s Choice’, as well as acclaim from such notable artists as Moby, who refers to Phillips as “Disconcertingly Funny”. His biographical comedy film “Punching the Clown” received the Audience award at Slamdance film festival ’09, and is continuing a successful run on the festival circuit. Here’s the trailer:
Mr. Alberstadt told NashvilleStandUp, “I love performing in Nashville.. especially in August when there’s no threat of snow to keep people hunkered down in the Kroger bread aisle. Plus, I get to see Chad Riden. (He doesn’t know it yet but I need some computer tech help.. and some advice on going bald gracefully.) It’s gonna be a fun week and a killer show on Wednesday!”

We are very pleased to announce that comedian Jarrod Harris will perform at The High Watt on August 20th. His stand-up has been featured on TBS’ Lopez Tonight and Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham.
“Jarrod Harris‘ act is an oddly comfortable mix of trailer-park filth, comic angst and hipster irony. While his style may fit into several categories along the comedy spectrum, his clever writing only fits into one: funny.” – Creative Loafing.
