The Nashville’s Funniest Person open mike stand-up contest – at Spanky’s every Tuesday night. The work-shop atmosphere features local regulars, nationally touring acts trying out new material, and the occasional lunatic wacko.
Comics should be there by 8 to guarantee a spot. The signup sheet is closed as soon as the show starts (usually about 8:30).
Weekly winners receive a cash prize AND a can of delicious Fresca plus move onto the monthly showcase.

I went to the Spankys Open Mike and it was the best thing since sliced bread. I laughed so hard that I peed my pants. Im still laughing now. It is the best theropy for depression and gas and upset stomach and Diarriaha. I think thats spelled correctly.
All my adult life I have been told I should try stand-up. I am looking for an open mic to give it a whirl. I noticed that the page appears very dated….2009 mostly. Do you still know of any open mic nights in the local 100 mile radius of Nashville?
The info in this post is still correct, as far as I know. Check the N’Sup Calendar / Show schedule on this site for open mic info – there are several regularly scheduled. We also send out reminders on Twitter & Facebook and whatnots.
I went to spankys recently and sat there for 3 hours and watch 11 “comics” perform. I will never get that lost time back. I didn’t laugh once. there were too many inside jokes that you wouldn’t get if you didnt know the “comic” personally. This place was as funny as testicular cancer.
I’m sorry you didn’t have a good time. That’s a very valid complaint.. and I can totally relate. Spanky’s has become a sort of “in-joke theater” primarily for open micers with less than 3 years of experience. *MY* complaint is that as an experienced road comic I use open mics to develop new material for clubs.. and you just can’t do that in a bar full of very young open micers.. so I just don’t go anymore. If you’re looking to see a more structured show (read: an hour and a half TOPS), with more experienced (read: bookable) up and coming comics I’d suggest the NashvilleStandUp.com showcase at Zanies. Let me know when you’d like to go and I’ll make sure you get in free as our guest.
