The “MangyDog Radio Hour Whoop-Dee-Doo” is a funny new podcast presented by the fine folks at ComedyPodcast.com that features stand-up comedy, skits, parody songs, prank calls and other wacky stuff. One recurring sketch is called “Texas Toast & His Talking Dog, Jesus” – written and conceived by Sean Parrott, the skit follows the adventures of Texas Toast taking on such opponents as nocturnal flying snakes with AIDS (and chainsaws with lasers).. armed only with a pocket knife and a talking dog. NashvilleStandUp’s Chad Riden does the voice for Texas Toast and very little else for this show, but fellow Nashville-based comedians Jesse Perry, Mark Anundson and Sean Parrott work hard on it and the show IS really funny.
Recent episodes includes stand-up comedy clips from Doug Stanhope, Bill Burr, Roy Wood, Jr., Tom Papa, Reno Collier, Greg Fitzsimmons, Pat Dixon, Mary Mack and Keith Alberstadt.. who (amazingly) even gave us permission to do so. Friday March 9th and Saturday March 10th, The Jackasses Of Comedy bring their snarky remarks, slander and slams to Zanies Comedy Showplace in Nashville. Doing a series of late-show-only performances (9:45pm on Friday & 11:15pm on Saturday), the Jackasses probably aren’t the best choice for your next church group outing.. but if you like politically incorrect, socially irresponsible, adult-themed stand-up – put down the bong and come out to the show.
The line-up for these shows includes “The Tennessee Tramp” Janet Williams, “America’s Favorite Comedian Of All Time” Chad Riden, “Improvisational Genius” Jesse Perry, and “Token Minority Comedian So It’s Not Just Whiteys” Damian Anaya. The Nashville Scene recently wrote, “Las Vegas has the Rat Pack, and Tennessee has this loose consortium of stand-up comedians.” Leave it to the Scene to encapsulate the sharp-tongued, anti-establishment spirit of the Jackasses Of Comedy with such a contemporary, hip reference and a word like “consortium”. Sigh. Regardless, they’re right.. the Jackasses are pretty much the modern-day Frank Sinatra – Dean Martin – Sammy Davis, Jr. – Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop’s of the state. Come on out to check out Chad Riden’s creepy glass eye.

THE JACKASSES OF COMEDY
Las Vegas has the Rat Pack, and Tennessee has this loose consortium of stand-up comedians, who’ve been alternating gigs in Knoxville and Nashville, with an occasional side trip to beautiful downtown Jackson. It’s a revolving lineup, with this Dec. 23 Cafe Coco laughfest featuring old reliables Jesse Perry and Chad Riden along with newer performers Rob Haynes and Spencer Ashmun (all of a decidedly precocious 15 years old). The fun begins at 9 p.m., and if you’ve made a serious dent in the holiday shopping, this might be a good spot to treat yourself to a brew and some cathartic chuckles. Last night the Jackasses of Comedy spread their sweet, sweet jackassery all over South Street comedy club in Jackson, Tennessee.

This weekend’s shows feature Rob Haynes, Chad Riden, Jesse Perry and Billy Wayne Davis.. and if you’re there tonight you just might bump into Corey Reppond and Monty.

Last night, Jesus made a special guest appearance.. before you get too excited about that, you should know that he was drunk and beligerent and got thrown out of the club. At some point Jesse Perry said, “Jesus, shut the fuck up. I never thought I’d say that..” We’ll put video clips up soon-ish. There’s still tickets available for the 9:30 show tonight.. hope to see you there.
