Performance Classes from Rik Roberts

A lot of people say you can’t teach funny.. but you can teach writing and you can give wanna-be comics some experience to help them hit the stage running. Beginner comics can improve their acts by learning performance techniques and intermediate level comics can gain an advantage with business of comedy tips from more experienced professional comics. Comedian Rik Roberts is teaching a series of classes at Zanies this fall that helps fill these needs.
Rik says, “I’m starting to get some real good folks who are in it for the long haul. The camaraderie these students have really helps them find some comedy buddies for support until they get over the hump.”
To sign up for classes, contact Rik Roberts at 1.888.895.8549 or email him at rik [at] rikroberts.com. Read on for details about each series of classes..

Fall Performance Classes
The fall performance classes will be held Tuesdays, October 2, 9, 16 & 23 at Zanies Comedy Club. The class will be divided in two groups and offered from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and 7:15 – 8:45 pm. This is done in order to accommodate all the students interested. I especially need some students to volunteer to take the later session.
I’ll need to know if you are interested ASAP.
A $50 deposit will be required to take the performance class. Deposit is payable by check, money order or I can e-mail you a Paypal invoice to pay with a credit card. Deposit must be received by Sept 20th to secure a spot. $50 deposit will be applied to the $200 class fee.
Members of former writing classes have first priority when asking for class dates and times. After they have their slots I will attempt to accommodate those who have yet to take a writing class.
If you’d like to sign up for the performance class please e-mail or call me (contact info bottom left). Be specific on what time you can attend. If more students want to take the early session than there is room for I will have to “draw” names. I want to limit the class size to guarantee you the best experience.
I must stress that to do the performance class without having taken the writing class first – you must have some material prepared! Ideally, you have either performed a little in the past or are currently attending open mikes, etc., It is really difficult to work with your performance dynamics if you have nothing to perform.
Also, only those who have taken BOTH the writing and performing classes are guaranteed a spot in the graduation show at Zanies November 14th. All others must be approved to be involved in the show.
